Alright, I get asked every so often what gear I use & recommend so, here you go… Also, I have provided links to as many of these items as possible in the B&H Photo & Video online store. They are great! You can visit them here.

Cameras: (I shoot all Nikon. Always have. With technology where it is today, I won’t knock Canon. They just have buttons in different spots. Although, Nikon glass tends to be the best!)

Lenses: (I’m a purist. All Nikon Glass, and it’ll probably stay that way. Doesn’t matter how good your camera is… it is only as good as the glass it can look through. I let mine look through Nikon. Just saying…)

Great Camera Accessories: I’m a tech geek, these little gadgets however, are worth being in your bag or part of your kit even if you aren’t a geek.) And, yes, the Hoodman is worth the money. Seriously…

  • Cokin Z-Pro Filter System (With various ND Filters)
  • Singh-Ray Variable ND Filter (2-8 stops)
  • B+W 6-stop ND Filter
  • Hoodman 3in Loupe
  • Nikon Intervalometer
  • Macbeth Color Checker Passport
  • Nikon MB-10 Battery Grip
  • Rocket Blower Lens Cleaning Kit

Tripod Heads & Legs: Two tripods you ask…? Yes, my carbon fiber is my bread and butter… Super light and easy to bring everywhere. Well, accept for Saltwater. My 190 is the swimmer of the group. And my heads are geared… are yours? You probably wouldn’t like it unless you shoot landscapes (or architecture, hdr, etc) if you do, then get the mini geared heads, they’re awesome!

  • Manfrotto O55CX-Pro3 Tripod Legs
  • Manfrotto 190X-Pro3 Tripod Legs
  • (2) Manfrotto Mini-Geared Heads

Lighting: (Lighting is probably more preference/budget than anything else. I love the 900 because of it’s power and usability. Oh and the ringlight? Insanely awesome.)

  • Nikon SB-900
  • Nikon SB-600
  • MyRingLight Constant Light
  • Gary Fong Lightsphere
  • Westcott Apollo Speedlight Softbox
  • Several PocketWizards + Nikon TTL PocketWizards

Tech & Software: (I’m a Mac. You’re a PC? Look, it’s not that PC’s can’t do the job… I just like working with an Apple. Oh and the Lightroom/Aperture debate? Have you tried Aperture3? They are similar. Both have features that the other doesn’t. Aperture fits my workflow best… End of story. PS, Nik Softwaremakes the best photo plugins available… Hands Down.

  • Apple MacBook Pro 15′
  • Apple iPad 3G
  • Apple Aperture 3.0
  • Photoshop CS5
  • Topaz Labs Adjust and Detail
  • Nik Filters (All of them)
  • Photomatix Pro
  • HDR Effects Pro
  • Helicon Focus

Bags: I use all Tenba Bags. They are absolutely great, weather resistant and extremely well thought out. Once you get a Tenba bag, you probably won’t find yourself buying from any other company again. My current favorite is the Green Photo Messenger. It’s awesome.

I did however, just pick up the Pelican 1510 rolling carry-on case. It’s a phenomenal way for gear to travel. It’s waterproof and crushproof (and supposedly the people at Pelican have been known to shoot their cases with a shotgun to prove their strength. Not sure if that’s true or not…) Anyways, I’m really enjoying the new case for trips with my gear.

Good post! This is the kind of information that should be distributed on the online community. I would like to read more of this.
